Dear MLC Students,
Today we are going to practice some phrases for telephone calls. Sentence of the Day for Tuesday 20/9/2016 is:
Ten phrases for telephone calls:
Hi, this is John.
(Formal) May I speak with John Smith?
(Informal) Is John there?
I’m calling about…
I’m returning your call.
(Formal) One moment, please.
(Informal) Hang on a sec.
He’s not here. Would you like to leave a message?
Could you ask him to call me back?
Thanks for calling.
In order to speak English fluently (or automatically whenever you open your mouth), one has to use it often. So practice these sentences as often as you can. You want to use them with yourself, and try them when you make a phone call, and then practice them at the meal table in Food Paradise.
Keep your cool manner at MLC: Greet people with smile and say when you meet at the meal table, or in MLC at any floor and anywhere:
Hello! How are you today! How are you doing today!
Good morning! Good evening! Good afternoon! Good night! Have a good day (one)!
Have a good one!
