Dear MLC Students,

Do you know what table manner is? Have you attended any formal dinner before? Do you know what the MLC’s Etiquette Code of Conduct is? If the answer is No to all the three questions, you want to join the Etiquette Workshop conducted by Dr. Chan, the Associate Master of MLC in the Dining Hall of W33, Thursday 29/9/16 at 8:00pm; especially are going to have our first High Table Dinner on Tuesday 11/10/16 at which many distinguished guests will come. Learn the polite code before you join the High Table Dinner.

Today we are going to practice complimenting other’s clothes (could be something else). Sentence of the Day for Tuesday 27/9/2016 is:

Complimenting other’s clothes (or things)

A: You look really nice today.
B: Thank you. I just got this outfit the other day.
A: Really, where did you get it?
B: I got it from Macy’s.
A: It’s really nice.
B: Thanks again. You look nice today, too.
A: Thank you. I just got these shoes today.
B: Really? What kind of shoes are they?
A: These are called All Star Chuck Taylors.
B: I really like those. How much did they cost?
A: They were about forty dollars.
B: I think I’m going to go buy myself a pair.

Practice these sentences as often as you can until you are able to speak them automatically. Try to initiate a topic at the meal table in Food Paradise and use these phrases with your neighbors. To develop your cross culture communication abilities, mastering multiple languages were crucial. Actively participating in the language table is an important way to learn and practice more languages. So join the language table and practice the designated language (now is English) everyday.

Also remember to keep your cool manner: Greet people with smile and say when you meet at the meal table, or in MLC at any floor and anywhere:

Hello! How are you today! How are you doing today!

Good morning! Good evening! Good afternoon! Good night! Have a good day!

Have a good day!
