About 300 teachers and students gathered in the dining hall of MLC to celebrate the 2019 Chinese New Year on January 25. As a traditional event, the College hosts the Chinese New Year Party every year. MLC takes this opportunity to invite students, academic staff and professors from the Faculties to enjoy performances and participate in traditional celebrations. This year, a total number of 12 teachers and students from Williams College, led by Professor Cornelius Kubler, were invited to participate in the party. Williams College has been ranked No.1 in Liberal Arts College in the U.S.A. for 15 consecutive years. Before the party, Prof. Debao Xu, Master of MLC, delivered a warm New Year speech. The event was followed by lucky draw and student performances, including singing, Chinese costumes dance, and dance prepared by SHUFFLE. Students from Williams College presented a dance performance and two wonderful songs namely “The Moon Represents My Heart”, a popular Chinese song and the English song, “Treasure”. Their performances were vivid and humorous, fully reflected the cheerful and lively spirit of American students. After the first round of performances, the students prepared a variety of booth games, including writing couplets, traditional Chinese paper cuts, dumpling making, fried rice cakes and boiled Tang Yuan. The final climax of the party was the performance prepared by College band team- Romans. Their passionate performance unveiled the prelude of the disco party. The guests and the students danced with music and lighting to enjoy the joy of the festival. The newly installed professional lighting system and stage layout of the College brought the dance party to life. The event was a great success, and both the students and guests had a great time.
