Accompanied by the sunshine and beautiful sound of cicadas, a large group of freshmen came to Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College (MLC) with their passion and hope of a new stage of life. Under the epidemic, MLC has welcomed the freshmen of 2021 in the College dining hall in a special way.
For the safety of students, parents and teachers, MLC has implemented a series of epidemic preventive measures. When the freshmen arrived at the College, they were required to show their health codes and check their temperature. In the same time period, only a maximum of three students were allowed to conduct the move-in procedures in the dining hall. And they were required to keep a social distance at all times.
The luggage may be heavy, the freshmen were excited about their new lives ahead. Walking along the red carpet, the freshmen arrived at the welcome board in front of the College dining hall which they signed their names on. The senior students warmly welcomed the freshmen with Chinese drums.
Then they entered the dining hall to do the move-in procedures. There were 7 counters including the reception, luggage storage, move-in registration, form filling area, College t-shirt collection, freshmen kit collection and House Association information. MLC administrative staff, student leaders and student trainees assisted every freshman in doing the move-in procedures. When the freshmen got the College t-shirt and the information kit provided by the university, they were very excited and couldn’t wait to start their wonderful campus lives. After finished the move-in procedures in the dining hall, the Resident Assistants guided the freshmen to their own rooms.
Although it was not easy, the parents have let their children go and embrace the university life. Under the epidemic preventive measures, MLC has set-up a parents waiting area outside the dining hall. When the freshmen were doing the move-in procedures in the dining hall, their parents could enjoy the bottles of water and snacks prepared by the College in the waiting area. MLC College Master and Resident Fellows welcomed the parents outside the dining hall, chatted with them and learnt about their children. Student leaders also helped answering the parents’ enquiries in the waiting area. With the College staff members’ care and the student leaders’ assistance, the parents were confident that their children would have a happy life in MLC.
After receiving the freshmen, all staff members of MLC will work together to assist them in adapting in their university and College lives.
