A gentle breeze arose, and the winter sun streamed through the lattice windows of the College, filling us with brightness and joy. Distinguished guests gathered, and the College was filled with sunshine and smiles.
On December 7, 2024, a delegation of 26 staff and students from Fudan University, led by Director Wang Yinfei from the Student Affairs Office (College Development), Director Ye Jingyan from the Academic Affairs Office, and Director Zhu Jianyi from Tengfei College, visited Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College (MLC) at the University of Macau. They were warmly welcomed by the College Master of MLC, Prof. Yang Liu, along with MLC staff and students. Representatives from Keqing College, Renzhong College, Tengfei College, Xide College, and Zhide College engaged in enthusiastic exchanges with MLC staff and students. Accompanied by Master Yang, Resident Fellow Venus, and MLC students, the delegation gained an in-depth understanding of MLC’s educational philosophy, historical background, unique values of “Great Love,” and “Grand Beauty” and its prospects for future development. Together, they wrote a beautiful chapter of shared connections between Shanghai and Macau.
MLC students lined the entrance of the College to warmly welcome the visiting delegation. Master Yang personally introduced the delegation to the College’s mission, symbolizing the love towards the country and the home and the dedication towards society. She also detailed the University of Macau’s “four-in-one” education model, the College’s educational philosophy and goals, and the rich cultural heritage embodied in the College’s plaque culture, which deeply impressed the delegation.

Entering the gates of the College, the group found themselves immersed in a wonderland of beauty. Master Yang enthusiastically introduced the guests to the unique blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles, the history of the college’s expansions, and the current study habits, living conditions, and management practices of the college residents, leaving a profound impression on the visitors.

Upon arriving at the College’s lobby, Resident Tutor Bao Rong introduced Fudan faculty and students to the College’s history, the philanthropic spirit of benefactors Mr. Ma Man Kei and Ms. Lo Pak Sam, the cultivation goals of the College’s seven core competencies, and its diverse academic discussions, social practices, and cultural exchange activities.

The delegation paid particular attention to the College’s signature project, the “Patriotic Education Base.” Xie Xinggu, a member of the UM National Flag Team and a student representative, gave the visitors a detailed tour, showcasing exhibition panels, artifacts, and Confucian culture to highlight the nation’s aspirations, patriotic sentiments, and traditions, as well as MLC’s achievements in the education of patriotism. The delegation members carefully observed each exhibit, listened to each touching story, and expressed heartfelt admiration for the Ma family’s spirit of “Great Love,” the College’s tradition of compassion, and its educational accomplishments in fostering patriotic values.

Master Yang presented the Fudan University delegation with a crystal desk ornament bearing MLC’s patriotic emblem and a collection of publications on the development of the University of Macau colleges. In return, the Fudan delegation gifted MLC a commemorative plate with Fudan University’s emblem as a token of goodwill. Before leaving the exhibition hall, Fudan faculty and students left words of praise and blessings for MLC, expressing high recognition of its educational philosophy and achievements. They also expressed a strong desire to deepen future collaboration and exchanges with the College.

The delegation also visited another landmark educational venue of the College, the Academy of Aesthetic Education, and observed its remarkable achievements in aesthetic education. This included the intellectual dialogues of the “Grand Beauty Forum,” the creative practices in the “Grand Beauty Workshop,” the natural harmony of the “Grand Beauty Wonderland,” and the elegant ambiance of “Grand Beauty Melody.” Through these “Grand Beauty” series activities, the College promotes the holistic development of students from a new perspective of art and aesthetics.

Additionally, the delegation visited other educational facilities of the College, such as the Double Three Coffee, the creatively designed culinary space, the MLC Encyclopaedia Library, the unique characteristic of the Macau Wave in the Grand Beauty Wonderland, and the Evergreen Dining Hall. They were full of praise for the College’s diverse educational environment.
