They would start their journey to visit the Sister College, Rixin College of Tsinghua University, embarking on a historically significant dialogue and reflection.

Inspiring Words from College Master

Master YANG provided a comprehensive briefing on the history of collaboration between the sister colleges, the significance of cultural exchange, joint poetry recitation, and safety guidelines—laying a solid foundation for the visit.

Exploring Tsinghua’s Historic Landscape

On November 3rd, the 14-member delegation, led by College Fellows Dr. Venus Viana and Dr. Chan Io Ieong, arrived at Tsinghua University and was warmly welcomed by Mr. YING Wenyu, Rixin College Tutor and the student representatives. The group first visited Tsinghua’s historic library, steeped in scholarly atmosphere, and then toured iconic landmarks such as “Tsinghua Garden”, “Shui Mu Qing Hua”, and the “Second Gate”, experiencing the harmony of natural beauty and cultural depth.

Paying Homage to YANG Zhenning’s Pursuit

In the YANG Zhenning Memorial Study Room of the University Library, time seemed to stand still. Students observed the authentic setting—bookshelves lined with classics, aged manuscripts on the desk, and historical photographs on the walls—recreating the famous scientist Prof. YANG Zhenning’s teaching days at Tsinghua. Ms. ZHENG Miaomiao from the Library Special Collections Department vividly narrated Prof. YANG’s unwavering pursuit of scientific truth, his contributions to international academic exchange, and his deep patriotic devotion to China’s scientific development. His shining scientific spirit and heartfelt patriotism resonated deeply, inspiring reflection and admiration.

Associate Master Prof. ZHANG Muyun, introduced Tsinghua’s residential college system and Rixin’s unique approach, emphasizing the integration of humanities with student development. Dr. Venus Viana expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality and shared MLC’s evolution, highlighting its motto—“Diversity, Etiquette, Sincerity and Whole Person”, and initiatives such as the Academy of Aesthetic Education and interdisciplinary forums that foster holistic growth.
Prof. YAN Cheng, Senior Manager of Student Affairs at Rixin, elaborated on the college’s mission of “integrating East and West, bridging past and present, and blending arts and sciences”, and its educational model of “broad foundation, strong fundamentals, and interdisciplinary learning”. Dr. CHAN Io Ieong introduced MLC’s core values—“Great Love, Grand Beauty, Great Truth”, and its efforts to nurture character and holistic development through spaces like the Love Country Love Macao Exhibition Hall, Academy of Aesthetic Education, and MLC Encyclopedia Library.
Students then engaged in heartfelt dialogue. Rixin student ZHOU Guangzhen shared her college life experiences, from academic exploration to cultural activities and communal living, painting a vivid picture of Rixin’s nurturing environment. Her reflections echoed MLC’s core values, building a bridge of shared spirit between the two colleges.
MLC student XIAO Tongxin shared her poetic journey of learning and growth, presenting a hand-painted lotus artwork, symbolizing Macao’s city flower and MLC’s emblem, representing resilience, purity, and cultural heritage. Her artwork embodied the college’s spirit and Macao youth’s deep cultural identity.
Both colleges also discussed future collaboration in areas such as history, humanities, philosophy, aesthetic education, joint cultural tours, and forums.
Sharing Patriotic StoriesA highlight of the visit was the sharing of stories commemorating the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. Students from both colleges presented historical reflections and patriotic narratives.

Rixin student WEI Kangqiao shared insights from his field research in Nanjian, Yunnan, retracing the legacy of the Southwest Associated University. He recounted the arduous years during the war when scholars relocated southward, steadfastly upholding the ideal of “education to serve the country”. Combining historical, philosophical, and literary perspectives with practical investigation, his narrative vividly portrayed educators’ resilience in preserving academic ideals amid the flames of war.
REN Feiyu reflected on her experience during a red-themed field study in Hohhot. She praised students for stepping beyond the “small study” and “ivory tower,” embodying the contemporary inheritance of patriotic traditions. By retracing the resistance base in Daqingshan, she immersed herself in red culture and deeply felt the unwavering faith and patriotic devotion of the martyrs.
MLC House Association President SUI Xinyi passionately shared Macao’s role during the war, highlighting its strategic importance as a hub for supplies and patriotic coordination. Through fundraising, performances, medical aid, and shelter, Macao actively supported the country in the war. She also reflected on visiting Xiangshan Historical Site during this trip, drawing inspiration from the unwavering resolve of great leaders.
MLC student CHEONG Kam Pui, a “Two Laws Ambassador”, paid tribute to benefactor Mr. MA Man Kei and his family’s patriotic contributions. During the war, Mr. Ma and fellow patriots supported the resistance forces in South China, including donating his entire wedding money to a wartime children’s education center. CHEONG expressed admiration for Mr. MA’s lifelong dedication to the country and Macao and pledged to carry forward his spirit.
A Poetic Tribute to the MotherlandThe exchange culminated in a powerful group poetry recitation. The students from both colleges stood solemnly to recite Chairman Mao Zedong’s Snow – To the Tune of Qin Yuan Chun, led by DU Xuanye and ZHANG Jiashuo from Rixin, and LAI Zhenni and ZHANG Hengrui from MLC. The poem embodied the romanticism and heroism of the great leader MAO Zedong during the war and the love for China.

The students’ resonant voices brought to life the majestic imagery of “a thousand miles of ice, ten thousand miles of snow,” and the stirring finale “to see who are the true heroes, look to the present.” In that moment, students and teachers from Beijing and Macao were united in patriotic spirit, forming a powerful emotional bond through shared verse.
As the event concluded, both colleges exchanged commemorative gifts and took group photos. The captured smiles and firm handshakes marked a warm and meaningful conclusion to this enriching cultural exchange.
