A delegation of 20 staffs and students from Choi Kai Yau College (CKYC) and Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College (MLC), led by Dr Qi Yaning, Resident Fellow of CKYC and Dr Liang Qingning, Associate Master of MLC, visited Nanjing from May 20 to 24, 2019. The trip was organized by School of Life Sciences, Nanjing University (NJU), supported by the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affair Office of NJU and sponsored by the Ten Thousands scheme of Ministry of Education, China. The event aimed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region. At the same time, to enhance the understanding of the history, culture and new development of Nanjing and to promote the academic and student exchange between University of Macau (UM) and NJU.

The team visited the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affair Office of NJU, the State Key Lab of School of Life Sciences, Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center and other institutions in the Xianlin campus of NJU on May 21. The beautiful campus, strong research capability and creative entrepreneurship programs of NJU impressed UM students and staffs.

The team also visited many historical and cultural landscapes in Nanjing city, including the ancient ten-mile Qinhuai River, Ming Xiao Mausoleum, Zhongshan Mausoleum, Nanjing Museum, Yu Hua Tai Martyrs Cemetery, Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall and so on. The students have deeper understanding about the ancient and modern history of China, especially the sufferings of Chinese people during the anti-Japanese war and the sacrifice of the communists during the civil war. During the trip, the participants also witnessed the great achievements of the modernization of Nanjing city.

This trip broadened the horizons of UM students, promoted friendship between NJU and UM, and also successfully strengthened the patriotism of Macao students, enhanced their senses of identity and belongings to the motherland.
