MLC Students Chan Ka Wan and Liao Wenyu, secured their places on Rector’s Honour List for their excellent academic achievements and exceptional performances. This year, a total of seven students from the entire university received the honour, for which MLC accounted for 28% of the total number. This is a joyful and celebratory achievement!

Ka Wan, with her passion for the field of law, has exhibited remarkable performance within the College. She is also an esteemed member of UM’s Honour College and a member of the Asian Law Students’ Association. Despite the demanding workload of her legal studies, she actively participates in the College’s community educational activities and assists her juniors with a positive and proactive attitude. Reflecting on her inclusion in the Rector’s Honour List, Ka Wan shared her thoughts: “Looking back to when I first entered law school, law was a subject that was both familiar and unfamiliar to me: familiar because it’s closely related to our lives; unfamiliar because I was essentially a blank slate in terms of legal knowledge. Although I often faced setbacks at the beginning of my learning journey, attending law school has been a dream of mine since my teenage years. I also hope to continue walking further along this path of law, flying higher and higher. I’m aware that I’m not naturally brilliant, so I often find myself trapped in self-doubt when it comes to learning. This honour has injected a powerful dose of encouragement into my pursuit of dreams, affirming the efforts I’ve put in over the past year. Even though there will be many unforeseeable challenges and difficulties in the future, I will continue moving forward with the encouragement from this honour.”

Wenyu is an energetic and knowledgeable individual both within the classroom and the College community. He holds a wealth of expertise in health sciences. Simultaneously, he serves as President of the Faculty of Health Sciences Student Association, College Resident Assistant, and team leader of the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM). Through his dedication and passion, he actively participates in various competitions and academic conferences, contributing to cultural and academic exchanges between UM’s student team and over twenty outstanding student groups from renowned institutions such as Hunan University, Lanzhou University, Southern University of Science and Technology, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Reflecting on his inclusion in the Rector’s Honour List, Wenyu expressed: “Step by step, I think and ponder, amidst hardship and song. This honour is a summary of my previous journey. I am filled with anticipation and reluctance as I embark on the next journey, leaving my mark on this soil I have personally walked upon. In the years to come, I hope to embrace the original intentions I have for all the lovely people around me, forever remaining as the shining sun in their hearts. The road is under my feet, and I am determined to bring more miracles to my surroundings!”
