Recently, the University of Macau (UM) and Zhejiang University co-organized a summer camp, aiming to promote cooperation between the two universities. The two-day visit enabled the delegation from Zhejiang University to gain a deep understanding of the education model and learning experiences at UM. The visit was part of Zhejiang University’s international education program and also part of the “Global Integration and Humanities ” program at Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College (MLC). The summer camp was jointly planned and designed by Prof. Wang Qingjie, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) of UM, Prof. Yang Liu, College Master of MLC, and Prof. Wang Jun, the Executive Vice Dean of School of Philosophy at Zhejiang University. This project was co-organized by the management and faculty-student teams from the three parties and the summer camp received great support and guidance by the Rector of UM, Prof. Song Yonghua.

On the morning of 4th July, the camp started with a sharing session between MLC and the School of Philosophy of Zhejiang University. Participants from both colleges had productive discussions and covered a wide range of topics, including an introduction to the residential college system and educational methods at MLC by Dr. Ka Wai Fung, Associate Master of MLC, and an introduction to the undergraduate education model and learning experiences by Ms. Lu Ping, the Deputy Party Secretary of School of Philosophy of Zhejiang University. The meeting was concluded by Prof. Ni Liangkang, Senior Professor in the humanities of Zhejiang University. This sharing session provided an opportunity for both parties to learn from each other’s practical experiences and explore potential cooperation.

After the symposium, student leaders from MLC led the delegation from Zhejiang University to visit the MLC’s  accommodation, facilities, and the UM campus. The vibrant campus atmosphere allowed Zhejiang University students to gain a better understanding of student life and the educational environment at UM.

In the afternoon, the delegation participated in a philosophy seminar organized by FAH. The seminar emphasized interaction, and young teachers and students engaged in lively conversations. Prof. Wang Qingjie delivered an enthusiastic welcome speech before the seminar. Then, Prof. Zhang Ying and her graduate students, Chiang Hio Fai and Wang Fen from the Philosophy Department of UM, gave presentations, sharing their diverse perspectives and academic pursuits in the field of philosophy. Prof. Zhang Ying, with her profound knowledge and unique insights, guided the audience in exploring the mysteries of both Eastern and Western philosophy. Chiang Hio Fai and Wang Fen, as young graduate students, brought vitality to the seminar with their distinct research approaches and fresh perspectives, allowing attendees to develop a deeper understanding of philosophy.

Members of the delegation also had the opportunity to explore the culture and historical wonders of Macau. They visited famous attractions such as the Ruins of St. Paul’s, A-Ma Temple, Taipa Old Village, and the Youth Patriotic Education Base, immersing themselves in the city’s rich history and cultural heritage as well as experiencing the unique blend of Chinese and Portuguese cultures in Macau. This visit provided a valuable platform for both universities to understand each other’s education models, exchange ideas, and explore areas of cooperation, strengthening friendship and collaboration between Zhejiang University and the University of Macau, and laying the foundation for future collaborative initiatives and academic pursuits.
