On 16th November 2022, MLC has the great honour to invite college fellow, Prof. Ellen Zhang Ying from the Department of Philosophy and Religion in FAH, to give a lecture on “Daoist Thought in the West”. Explaining the profound in simple terms, Prof. Zhang introduces the comprehensiveness of Daoism and the unique features of the way Daoism was spread to the West. Daoism in the West is found in many western administrative and academic aspects. Daoism is related to the Western philosophy of leadership, to the study of physics, to the idea of feminism, to the theories of modern psychology and so on. The lecture attracted students from various academic disciplines. To the attendees, Prof. Zhang’s exquisite lecture not only gave them a deeper insight into the philosophy of Daoism, but also into the influence of Chinese philosophy in the world. Students showed tremendous interest in Prof. Zhang’s lecture and her other scholarly research by asking a number of intuitive questions, and by inquiring Prof. Zhang the possibility to give a talk on Buddhism next semester. Prof. Zhang affably agreed. Thus, stay tuned to our announcement about Prof. Zhang’s exciting lecture on Buddhism next semester.
2022年11月16日，MLC非常榮幸地邀請到非駐院導師、人文學院哲學與宗教系張穎教授舉行一場名為「道家思想在西方」的講座。在講座中，張教授深入淺出地介紹了道家思想的全面性和在西方的傳播特色。她認為，西方國家在行政和學術領域都能體驗到道家思想。道家與西方的領導哲學、物理學、女性主義思想以及现代心理學理論等等都有密切關係。這次講座吸引了來自不同專業的同學，對他們來說，張教授的講座不仅令他們對道家思想有更了深刻的了解，而且使他們對中國哲學在世界的影響力也有了更深入的認識。同學們對張教授精妙絕倫的演講和學術作品表現出極大的興趣，他們提出了許多學術性問題，并詢問張教授下學期舉辦佛學講座的可行性，仁心仁愛的張教授滿口答應了同學們的要求。因此，可以期待下個學期將迎來張教授關於佛學研究的精彩講座。
